One Park introduces new relief menu post Hurricane Melissa
Proceeds from comfort meals help fund giveback
One Park Restaurant and Lounge has joined the efforts to support those in need following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa by creating its very own relief menu designed to offer diners comfort foods and help fund relief efforts.
“We all have our favourite dishes that we run to whenever we’re dealing with any type of trauma. At One Park, we’re known for having an upscale menu. But we’re saddened by the tragedy and horror that the recent hurricane caused, and [we] wanted to take this opportunity to give back. The first thing that came to mind was comfort food,” the restaurant’s executive chef Judah Ellis told Food.
One Park emerged on the local culinary scene almost a year ago and is steadily building a reputation for its exciting fusion of flavours paired with technical expertise [that] continues to delight food aficionados. “Anywhere that I’ve worked, my team calls me a mad scientist, because when it comes to food, [there are] no real boundaries. We take risks, we’re going to try everything in order to provide the very best dining experience. But for the relief menu, our aim is to give peace of mind in such a crucial time,” Chef Ellis revealed.
JAMROCK COMFORTS
The relief menu, launched recently at its 1 Park Close location, celebrates the nation’s cultural melting pot with three delectable categories: Jamrock comforts, pasta pleasures and burgers.
The Jamrock comforts features local classics such as island curry goat, which is served with coconut-infused white rice and fried plantains. The revival bowl includes jerk marinated chicken breast, creamy coconut rice and plantain; and the island snapper fish, pan-seared and simmered in a mild Scotch bonnet butter sauce and accompanied by jasmine rice.
They say when life happens, pasta helps, so treat yourself to the pleasures of island pasta. ‘Penne’ for your thoughts? This delightfully seasoned chicken breast is served on a bed of creamy jerk alfredo, with a hint of spice, courtesy of Scotch bonnet peppers. Then there is the rasta pasta relief; a vegetarian option with sweet peppers, callaloo and coconut cream sauce.
STORM BREAKER
And for more than a mouthful of deliciousness, burger lovers can grab the storm breaker burger with melted cheddar, jerk aioli and caramelised onions with sweet potato fries or take a bite of the Park crispy chicken sandwich. Made with buttermilk-fried chicken breast, pickled slaw and a honey Scotch bonnet glaze, the Park crispy chicken sandwich is served with seasoned fries.
FUNDING RELIEF
All these carefully curated menu items will be available up to December at a cost-effective price. Funds from the meals purchased on the relief menu will go directly towards the provision of food items, clean water and other essentials to assist individuals and families recovering across the island.
The dedicated team has been working diligently to make a difference in supplying aid beyond the plate. “We started out by supplying food, clothing, toiletries and general medication, just general necessities for those affected by Hurricane Melissa. Then we moved into providing material for roofing, beds, and we’re bringing in generators. So while we focus on food, our aim is to bring hope to those affected and rebuild Jamaica. Comfort also comes with shelter,” Patricia Myrie, one of the directors of One Park, said.
