Cheers to the new year!
The new year is finally here! And already, the island has begun to celebrate with a bottle of bubbly! If you’re still drinking to good health for 2026, you may want to consider adding Cipriani to your sipping portfolio.
According to Dr Debbian Spence-Minott, the Cipriani Prosecco is made from 100 per cent Glera grapes and stands proudly as a true representation of Italy’s Prosecco region. The Bellini, a wine cocktail which combines Prosecco and white peaches, provides an enjoyable experience for both new wine drinkers as well as expert wine consumers who are seeking something different for a special occasion.
She shared further details on the history of the Cipriani Bellini. “The Bellini originated in Venice, Italy, at Harry’s Bar in 1948 by Giuseppe Cipriani. Inspired by the peach or pink hues of a painting by Giovanni Bellini that was hung in a church, Giuseppe decided to create a cocktail that reflected these hues. Bartending held a special place in Giuseppe’s heart. So he decided to combine the fresh, vibrant notes of Prosecco with white peaches. The original Bellini cocktail was a hit and soon became the symbol of celebration and Venetian hospitality,” the commercial brand manager for wine and spirits at GraceKennedy Limited told Food.
It is important to note that the peach notes in the Bellini aren’t artificial flavouring; it is a result of real peaches incorporated in the mix. “Prior to opening, it is highly recommended that you chill, flip the bottle, twist, and enjoy those bold peach hues inside your wine glass or flute,” she added.
So, what inspired this wine specialist to introduce Cipriani to the local market? In October 2024, Spence-Minott attended a Cayman Islands wine festival when her eyes were drawn to a beautiful teal bottle. Attracted at first sight, her feelings quickly grew to love after the very first taste.
“I recognised one of my friends in wine, Flavio Andreatta, showcasing the Cipriani Bellini and Prosecco. And, upon tasting, I was in awe and quickly expressed [that] we needed this product in Jamaica. In February of 2025, this time at Wine Paris, I met with Flavio again, where I questioned him about the Bellini. We then met with the wine owners,” she revealed.
After a few sips and great conversations, an agreement was reached, and Cipriani would make its way to our green shores. “Our first shipment landed in October, right before the storm. Consequently, there was little we could do in terms of launching. As the situation progressively stabilised, we launched the brand on Saturday, December 6, with Cipriani’s commercial director for the Americas, Francesco Portello,” she said.
Exquisite taste
The reviews, she highlighted, have been incredible so far, with many raving about the exquisite taste. “The Bellini, with its bold teal packaging, fresh white peaches intertwined with the effervescence of the Prosecco and only 5.5 per cent alcohol by volume, is certainly confirmed to be an amazing combination. There were a few stores we sold in, and the stock was done in three days,” she enthused, adding, “Our customers are also excited about the mini Bellini - the same product in a 200ml package. It makes an easy selection for gifting, brunches, and weddings.”
Speaking of occasions, Spence-Minott shared the story behind sparkling wine and champagne celebrations for the new year. “In the late 18th century, kings and queens reserved this type of wine for celebrations. By the 19th century, the consumption during celebrations quickly spread to the masses. Sparkling wines remain a symbol of luxury and celebration. I definitely endorse this tradition. We must always celebrate new years, marriage, promotions, birthdays and other significant moments. Something about the effervescence that aids in transcending your mood to a happier place. But, as always, consuming any alcohol beverage in a moderate and responsible manner is a must.”
