Correctional officers to get payment schedule

Unions representing correctional officers are to hear from the Ministry of Labour in Jamaica, by no later than Friday, on a payment schedule to settle outstanding allowances.

The money, which covers shift and supper allowances, are part of an agreement reached with the government under Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) 3.

Arlington Turner, the Chairman of the Jamaica Federation of Correctional Officers, says the allowances were to be paid by the end of June.

Turner says despite several discussions with the finance ministry on the matter, a settlement is yet to be reached.

As a result, several correctional officers represented by the University and Allied Workers Union, staged a sick out for hours yesterday.

Turner says the correctional officers agreed to return to work after the labour ministry gave an assurance yesterday that the unions would be given a payment schedule by no later than Friday.
