Thompson Herah, Fraser-Pryce, Jackson, Richardson headline women's 100m field at Prefontaine Classic
The Jamaican women who completed a clean sweep of the medals in the 100m Olympic final in Tokyo will get an opportunity to battle again when the Diamond League season resumes with the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on August 21.
Double sprint Olympic champion Elaine Thompson Herah, four-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and 100m Olympic bronze medal Shericka Jackson headline a strong field that was announced for the first Diamond League after the Tokyo Games.
The meet will also see the return of American Sha'Carri Richardson after serving her 30-day suspension for testing positive for marijuana in July which prevented her from participating in Tokyo.
Thompson Herah defended her Olympic crown in an Olympic record of 10.61 seconds, erasing the 10.62-second mark the late American Florence Griffith Joyner set in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. Fraser-Pryce was second in 10.74 seconds while Jackson finished third in a personal best of 10.76 seconds.
The trio are among the six Olympic finalists that will feature in the race including America's Teahna Daniels, Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji and Ivory Coast's Marie-Josée Ta Lou. Jamaica's Briana Williams who won gold in her first senior championships as part of the 4x100m relay team at the Tokyo Games was also named for the race.
