The Jamaica Labour Party's Donovan Williams has been declared the winner in Kingston Central following the official count of votes cast in the constituency in Wednesday's general election.

The preliminary count on the night of the election had the People's National Party's Steve McGregor edging out Williams by 12 votes.

However, at the end of the official count on Friday evening, Williams was confirmed as receiving 4,832 votes to McGregor's 4,753. This means Williams received 79 more votes than McGregor.

The JLP had said on Thursday that it would be watching the official count in that constituency closely as it felt it had won the seat based on its own numbers.

South East St Mary, where Christopher Brown narrowly defeated Dr Norman Dunn by 11 votes, is also being closely monitored by the party.

With the latest update, the JLP now holds 35 of 63 seats in the House of Representatives, while the PNP has 28.
