Time longer than rope, Minister Chang!
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am a security supervisor and I, for one, take great offence to Minister Chang's negative connotation of the industry in which I work when he, being critical of the police, referred to them recently as a glorified "security guard" force that his Government inherited.
Minister Chang would do well to remind himself of the over 25,000 security guards working in the industry and the vital role that myself and my colleagues play in complementing the national security apparatus. Without us lowly "security guards", I suspect that the police would be even more under pressure and chaos and anarchy would be the inevitable result.
Minister Chang's comments are even more unfortunate when one remembers that the Private Security Regulatory Authority which regulates security guards falls under his ministry, and seeing the low opinion that the minister has of us, it is little wonder why challenges facing the industry are not being addressed.
I also remind Minister Chang that we play another vital role when it comes to election day, and, I for one, will not forget the disrespectful reference which he - and his party - has made.
