Cafe Blue brings its signature brew to New Kingston
With sweet aromas and captivating scents weaving through the traffic, corporate coffee lovers have even more to enjoy as their favourite bistro brand expands. Cafe Blue has entered its ninth chapter, officially opening the doors of its New Kingston location. According to Jodi-Ann Stewart, the company’s operations manager, the new hot spot on Grenada Crescent was designed to provide the popular roasted coffee bean sensations for customers in and around the hustle and bustle of the city.
“Our customers within this area would frequent the Liguanea branch. And they have expressed on many occasions that the cafe wasn’t an ideal fit based on traffic constraints. So, we wanted to bridge that gap, satisfy that need and create a sleek space for the business community,” she explained to Food.
For Cafe Blue, the fresh brew of Blue Mountain coffee is pure poetry in every sip.
“We grow our own coffee so we control the entire process, from the quality to the delivery,” Stewart revealed, adding that it took a great deal of testing and tasting the roasts profile to come up with the perfect perk for the day.
From cappuccinos and lattes to espressos prepared by some of the city’s best barristers, coffee lovers can also enjoy a range of cold coffee-inspired beverages. The salted caramel frappé is an absolute gamechanger. Stewart shared that people tend to go for its sweet and salty balance.
The Oreo frappé is also well received and the mochaccino, which is a decadent melody of chocolate and coffee hits high notes among customers.
But the line-up isn’t limited to drinks, “Our coffee is definitely signature because that’s what we are known for. But we serve breakfast all-day. Our omelettes, burritos and waffles, and pancakes are all considered fast food items, even though they’re done to order. We also have fresh pastries that fly off the shelves.”
With about six months to prepare, the cafe opened on Monday and the response has been amazing so far. “Since opening, it has been lovely, especially the morning traffic. And this really confirmed that our presence was necessary in New Kingston,” she added.
The quality is evident in both the menu and the décor. The open floor concept invites those on the go to grab a drink or a bite quickly, while those who stay can enjoy the aesthetically pleasing ambience.
“We wanted to go for a little urban feel to match the city vibe of New Kingston, while keeping it Jamaican, adding the wooden tables, the copper wall, and the black and wooden features. Our tables are made by Mara Made Designs– [our] signature wooden tables that we have at all our locations. And I think it speaks a lot about Jamaica and just who we are.”
To tell the entire story of how coffee is grown, there is a big, stunning mural overlooking the seats of a woman enjoying a cup of coffee, “Her hair is made of coffee beans, so if you touch it, you can feel the coffee beans on it. So it’s an interactive piece that tells the story of Jamaican farmers,” Stewart said.
The hope is to host a relaxing space for co-working and networking, and to facilitate this vision, a garden in the city is currently under way to accommodate outdoor dining. There are also plans for delivery in the pipeline.
“Although we have created this welcoming space, we want to offer delivery to the persons who are in the office who can’t leave or they have probably short lunch periods. We are going to be doing online ordering as well so that we reach as many persons as possible in this fast paced environment. In about a month or so, we’ll have an outdoor dining space– a garden in the city.”
New Kingston has evolved over the years. But it still remains as the mecca for the working class who could use a little break or a treat to something sweet. Cafe Blue is happy to deliver on that experience.
