The Bless Table, a faith-based restaurant promising a mix of gourmet and Jamaican delights, has opened its doors on Red Hills Road. The restaurant officially opened on November 10 amidst a gathering of family, friends and well-wishers, and hopes to add something different to the culinary landscape.

“The Bless Table is a family-friendly restaurant built on Christian principles,” Keneisha Green, founder of The Bless Table, told Food, explaining the restaurant’s faith-based ethos. “But we’re not super rigid with the expression of our faith. So, we have a diverse menu, guests can enjoy a glass of wine with their meal while listening to some gospel music or a clean R&B playlist.”

Green stated that dining is about more than just food. “Breaking bread is a celebration of life, and it’s been a difficult and sobering year for many Jamaicans. So, for us, the aim is to curate a wholesome experience for our diners that centres on flavourful food and fellowship. We want guests to leave feeling nourished,” she said.

The journey to restaurant ownership is deeply personal for Green. “It all started with a vision. God declared a word that I would open a restaurant, and he even revealed the look and feel of the space. So, once I saw this spot at the Red Hills Road Business Centre advertised, there was perfect alignment, and my team moved on it swiftly. The journey to where we are today has been defined by faith and reminds me of Psalm 34:8, which tells us to ‘Taste and see that the Lord is good’,” she shared.

Green said that food was always central to her upbringing, though she has no professional culinary training. “I grew up in a household shaped by food, as both of my parents worked in the culinary industry. However, I don’t have any formal training in food,” she said.

The opening of The Bless Table adds a new dimension to her journey as a culinary entrepreneur, having founded Bless Foods, a catering company in 2020. Much like The Bless Table began with a vision, so did Bless Foods, which caters for weddings and parties and has concessionaire contracts with business process outsourcing companies and financial institutions. “I got a vision in 2018 that I would launch a catering business, and it took shape in 2020,” she shared.

The Bless Table, said Green, “allows us to be more imaginative and create an experience for our diners”.

Menu items include honey BBQ, sweet and spicy or classic jerk bless wings; pimento-smoked cordon bleu and creamy lemon salmon; Rum Fire shrimp and all-spice pork. There are also plans for special events.

“For now, the dining experience will be consistent throughout the week, but we plan to add a gospel brunch on Sundays in the future, among other events, once things settle down,” said the founder.

Samuel Brissett, head chef and co-owner of The Bless Table, also grew up around food. “My great-grandfather was a butcher, and my father and uncle operated their own corner cookshops. So, I’m following in that tradition,” he shared.

For Brissett, The Bless Table is a realisation of a lifelong ambition and a chance to share his passion through every dish. “The Bless Table is the manifestation of a lifelong dream for me, and it’s been a pleasure working with the team to curate this menu. My favourite meal to prepare is the creamy lemon salmon, but I’m excited and energised to see how patrons will engage with all the items on offer,” he said.

He shared that the menu is “a mix of family tradition as well as dining experiences via local and international travel”.

The Bless Table is located at 76RHR Business Centre at 76 Red Hills Road and is open from Tuesdays to Sundays. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available.
