The United Nations (UN) is seeking to recruit police officers from St. Lucia and Dominica to work in Haiti.
The UN’s request follows a suggestion from the Director of the Caricom Representation Office in Haiti, Earl Huntley.
Ambassador Huntley said the Brazilian Ambassador to Haiti informed him that Brazilian and French Police Officers were having difficulty training Haitian Police, because of their inability to communicate in Creole.
Mr. Huntley said he has suggested that St Lucian and Dominican officers could assist, because they speak basically the same Creole as Haitians with some minor differences.
The UN asked the governments of St. Lucia and Dominica to nominate police officers to work in Haiti.
