Make this the Christmas of Love
It's December 1 and I wonder where the year has gone! Always, as Christmas approaches, I start to feel a little anxious and overwhelmed. So many family expectations, work obligations, social events, school functions, late nights, heavy food, present shopping, crazy traffic, and Santa lists a mile long that I really have to make a conscious effort to keep grounded and remind myself what Christmas is all about.
When I stop and allow myself to become quiet, I remember that Christmas is simply about love. When I think about this and set love as my intention for this wonderful holiday, my whole attitude changes and I am able to bring love into all my actions, whether hosting a Christmas dinner for family or friends, or simply teaching my children the importance of giving, not just receiving.
Stay stress free
I hope you enjoy these few ways to be more loving and stress-free this Christmas:
1. Start your day in the spirit of love:
Instead of jumping out of bed in a panic about all the things you have to do, spend a moment to take some slow, deep breaths and simply plant the intention of love and gratitude in your heart. This small offering will put you in the right frame of mind to begin your day.
2. Prioritise your life:
Make a list of your activities and obligations and choose only those that you know are going to uplift you and serve your highest good.
4. Eat and drink mindfully:
Use the temptations of food and drink this season to practise mindfulness. While enjoying the wonderful abundance, avoid overindulgence. Choose to prepare more healthy options this year for you and your family!
3. Give back:
Remember those less fortunate than you and make giving to those in need part of your Christmas. If you have children, this is the perfect time to teach them the importance of charity.
5. Gift giving:
We can't avoid gift giving; it is part of the spirit of Christmas. In this challenging economy, make an effort to buy gifts that are locally made, or make your own. Don't spend outside of your means! There is nothing worse than starting the New Year in debt!
6. Family expectations:
Often, family gatherings can cause stress. Approach family gatherings in the spirit of unconditional love and acceptance of each other. Let go of judgements and expectations of others and see how much more fun you have this year!
7. Exercise
Many of us abandon our exercise routine at Christmas. This is the worst thing you could do! Set time aside time every day to move your body, shift your energy, and burn some calories and start the New Year feeling good about yourself.
