The stage is set for a thrilling finale to the Jamaica Cricket Association Michael Holding Senior Cup as Melbourne Cricket Club and St Catherine Cricket Club secured their spots in the title decider following emphatic semi-final performances over the weekend.

At Chedwin Park, Melbourne CC booked their ticket to the final in a drawn encounter against Kensington CC, thanks largely to a colossal first-innings total that proved insurmountable.

In a crucial tactical error, Kensington won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that quickly backfired as the Melbourne batsmen seized control of the contest.

The cornerstone of Melbourne’s mammoth 326 was a breathtaking century from Renalda Ingram, who carved the Kensington attack to all parts with a spectacular 120 off a mere 113 balls.

His innings was a master class in power-hitting, featuring eight elegant fours and a staggering 10 sixes. Ingram found a formidable partner in veteran opener Chadwick Walton, with the pair stitching together a vital 142-run stand for the second wicket.

Walton, who played the anchor role to perfection, contributed a solid 69 before falling to the bowling of Andrew Lloyd.

Ingram’s explosive knock finally came to an end when he was caught off Lloyd’s bowling with the score at 220, but by then, the damage had been done.

Wicketkeeper Kymani Wilson added further impetus with a brisk 70, while a series of 40-run partnerships down the order ensured Melbourne motored past the 300 mark.

For Kensington, left-arm spinner Ryan Francis toiled hard to claim 4-103, while Andrew Lloyd was the pick of the bowlers with economical figures of 3-40.

Chasing a daunting target, Kensington’s reply got off to a promising start as opener Leroy Lugg with 43 and Corey Hinds, 36, put on 69 for the first wicket.

However, the resistance crumbled thereafter as the middle order wilted under pressure, collapsing to 186 all out.

Francis showed his all-round capabilities with a defiant 37, and Lloyd remained unbeaten on 24, but it was Melbourne’s bowlers who held the upper hand.

Leg-spinner Matthew Comrie was the chief destroyer, bagging 4-64, while Omar Allison provided excellent support with 3-52. With a substantial lead in hand, Melbourne batted a second time to reach 128 for 5 before the match petered out to a draw, securing their progression on first-innings points.

Meanwhile, at Kensington Park, St Catherine CC produced an utterly dominant display to crush Trelawny by a staggering 361 runs in a one-sided affair that underscored their title credentials.

The "Saints" batted first and declared their innings at a commanding 390 for 4, laying the foundation for victory with a pair of magnificent centuries.

Opener Kevon Lettman was in sublime touch, smashing 153 before he was eventually bowled by Osburn Palmer.

He was ably supported by Kennar Lewis, who continued his rich vein of form with a brilliant 142, also falling to Palmer.

Carlos Brown added a fluent 50, while wicketkeeper Trevaun Williams provided the late fireworks with an unbeaten 30 as St Catherine piled on the agony.

If the batting was clinical, the bowling was devastating. In reply, Trelawny’s chase was a complete capitulation as they were skittled for a paltry 70.

At one stage, they were reeling at a disastrous 49 for 8, with captain Jeavor Royal leading the carnage. The skipper returned sensational figures of 5-18 from a 13-over spell of controlled spin, while Joel Williams and Vitel Lawes chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Demonstrating their complete dominance, St Catherine enforced a second declaration at 97 for 8, setting Trelawny an impossible target. The result was never in doubt as Lawes turned into an unplayable force with the ball.

In just 4.5 overs, he ripped through the Trelawny line-up to claim stunning figures of 6-13, dismissing the opposition for a mere 56 and securing a comprehensive victory.
