Jamaica national flag football team defeated their US Navy counterparts to win their friendly competition at the UWI Mona Bowl on Wednesday.

Team Jamaican One defeated the US Navy One team to kick-start their run. They then  defeated US Navy Two team 20-18 in their second match before rounding off the day with a 20-14 win over the US Navy Two team, to top the table with maximum three wins, ahead of Team Jamaica Two, with two wins. Team Jamaica Three also took the bronze after two wins as well.

Team Jamaica One quarterback Jorge Braithwate said it was a collective effort and they are pleased with the standard of football they displayed.

"It was a collective effort with great skills from the receivers and quarterbacks coming together to bring home the wins. The quality was exceptional. It is motivating to see where football is coming from and where it has reached now. So it is a humbling experience to represent Jamaica in such a significant moment for football," he commented.

Executive director of the National Tackle Football Association,  Jerome Harriet, was also pleased and surprised by the level of football the team demonstrated.

"We played a number of athletes from the US Navy who are highly accomplished. Most of these persons played at a very high level in high school but, instead of going to colleges, they ended up in the Navy, but we are pleasantly surprised that  the Jamaican team was able to execute and blend in," he added.
