It will be a repeat of the 2022 senior ISSA Urban Schoolgirl Netball Championships final next Tuesday, as Gaynstead and José Martí Technical High School secured their spots following Thursday’s semi-final action at the Leila Robinson Courts. Defending junior champions Wolmer’s Girls’ also stayed on course to retain their title.

In the senior final, Gaynstead will face José Martí Technical after an impressive 42-26 victory over Norman Manley High in their semi-final.

José Martí, on the other hand, prevailed 33-30 in a close encounter against Wolmer’s Girls’.

In junior semi-final action, Wolmer’s easily defeated Jonathan Grant High 31-19, while Norman Manley got by 2023 champions St Hugh’s High 33-21.

In the opening game of the day, Wolmer’s were up against a vastly improved Jonathan Grant outfit in the junior encounter. The Tracy-Ann Griffiths-coached Wolmer’s got off to a fast start, leading 11-5 at the end of the first quarter before extending the advantage to 26-11 at half-time. They kept up the tempo in the next two quarters, leading 26-14 after the third before closing out 32-19 in the final stanza. Goal shooter Jadeen Frith scored all 32 goals from 37 attempts for the winners.

In the Norman Manley-St Hugh’s junior match-up, it was tight for the first two quarters as Norman Manley led 7-5 after the first and 15-14 at half-time. They stepped up the pace in the second half, leading 25-18 after the third before sealing a 33-21 win.

In a very exciting and close senior game between Wolmer’s and José Martí, the Central Village team avenged their preliminary-round loss. They led in every quarter – 10-8, 23-16, 27-24, and 33-30. Goal shooter Kalee Martin scored all 33 goals from 40 attempts for José Martí, while Kaelyn Kendra Smith tallied all 30 goals from 34 attempts for Wolmer’s.

Favourites Gaynstead were in a no-nonsense mood in their senior semi-final against Norman Manley despite a tight opening quarter that ended 7-7. From there it was one-way traffic as Gaynstead pulled away 22-17, 30-24, and eventually 42-26 for a comprehensive win.
