UNITED States-bred UNSPUN and FEARLESS FORCE pack the finishing power to upstage Jason DaCosta’s local-bred speedsters, MAMMA MIA and CALIFORNIA CROWN, in Saturday’s I’msatisfied Trophy at six furlongs.

MAMMA MIA and CALIFORNIA CROWN recorded sprint victories over FEARLESS FORCE and MONEY MARKET, respectively, this summer. However, in both instances the DaCosta runners were loose on the lead, lone speed, at six and five and a half furlongs, respectively.

With MONEY MARKET in the mix at six furlongs, it will be interesting to see which of DaCosta’s runners will allow the other to escape. Should MAMMA MIA and CALIFORNIA CROWN go at each other on the lead, the closers, UNSPUN and FEARLESS FORCE, will certainly come calling.

UNSPUN and FEARLESS FORCE are reporting with rich form. UNSPUN outclassed last year’s St Leger winner, INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD, in the Typewriter Trophy two Sundays past. Sharp at the start, UNSPUN won in gate-to-wire fashion at seven and a half furlongs, the three-year-old’s first run out of Alford Brown’s barn.

FEARLESS FORCE’s last two races can be ignored, playing second fiddle to stablemate RIDEALLDAY, who was busy beating MONEY MARKET at five and a half furlongs on September 20 and failing by a half-length to catch last year’s Mouttet Mile runner-up, LEGACY ISLE, by a half-length in Sunday’s Gold Cup.

However, FEARLESS FORCE was pretty sharp in her two previous races, beating Sunday’s Nigel B Nunes winner, BOOTYLICIOUS, at five and a half furlongs on September 7 after just failing to catch a ridden-to-the-board MAMMA MIA, aboard whom the whip rule was shattered by Robert Halledeen, at six furlongs on August 16.

Neither MAMMA MIA nor CALIFORNIA CROWN, last year’s 2000 Guineas winner, have the guts to counter matching speed when eyeballed in a sprint. Should MONEY MARKET leave the gate as sharp as he did when collared by RIDEALLDAY at five and a half furlongs, both DaCosta runners will be in early trouble.

UNSPUN and FEARLESS FORCE are middle-distance specialists, who will capitalise on pace collapsing after five and a half furlongs. After failing to catch MAMMA MIA at six furlongs, FEARLESS FORCE reeled in BOOTYLICIOUS at five and a half, exposing her versatility.

UNSPUN showed a new lease on life in his first run for Brown, early pace, which will serve him well from post-position one with slower runners on his outside, CHAMPION BUBBLER and PERFECT BREW, giving the Typewriter winner what should be an unmolested rail run throughout.

Having galloped 1:06.1 for five and a half furlongs at exercise prior to winning the Typewriter, UNSPUN only needs to avoid traffic in the stretch run to be the fastest finisher at six furlongs, a trip at which he beat RIDEALLDAY as a two-year-old last December and UNBELIEVABLE FORCE in May.
