Harbour View expected to be ready for night games soon
HARBOUR VIEW General Manager Clyde Juridieni expects the club’s home ground, the Harbour View Stadium, to be passed by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to host night and televised games by the end of the month.
The Harbour View Stadium has had it fair share of troubles staying operational over the last five years due to surface or infrastructure issues that have needed upgrades.
The team only returned to playing JPL games at home last season after four years, and Juridieni said the next step is to have the ability to play night matches and host televised games.
“We took down the old technology, put up some from last year, and now we have added 24 more lights to the stadium. We are adjusting some of them and they will be tested by the JFF.
“We are doing the measurements to make sure the flux will be approved for local and, hopefully, in time, international games.
“But our stadium should be approved to host live television games, and more importantly, for the supporters of Harbour View to have night games at the Harbour View Football Stadium by the end of October,” he said.
He noted that the playing surface upgrade is taking longer than expected. But the areas that need addressing should be ready for inspection by next week.
“The last two years, for the first two months of the season, because we have seven teams playing year round, we have a grass field that needs to be nourished and replenished, and we are doing that.
“The grass field is not astro turf. It can’t take the beating. So we are still working on it. Our next home game is scheduled for Sunday, October 26.
“The areas of grass that we needed time to come on, they say in the next week or two it should. So we are still on it. But not there yet. So I don’t think we will ask the JFF to come before next week.”
