Frazsiers Whip, Cavalier in top-of-the-table JWPL clash
Defending Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) champions Frazsiers Whip will take on league leaders Cavalier in a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash today at the Alpha Boys Home field at 3:30 p.m.
Cavalier lead the standings with 22 points, just one ahead of Frazsiers Whip.
As well as being the top-two teams so far in the competition, Cavalier and Frazsiers Whip are also the only unbeaten teams left in the league.
Cavalier have recorded seven wins and one draw in their eight games played this season with Frazsiers Whip boasting a perfect record of seven wins from as many games.
Everdean Scarlett, head coach of Cavalier, said today’s fixture will be an important test as he is aware any meeting against the defending champions is expected to be a tough outing.
“It is pretty important for us to try and remain unbeaten in the competition. Tomorrow is a meeting of two tough teams that are used to scoring goals,” he said. “It is going to be a hard-fought battle on the field tomorrow.”
“Our preparation has been good, but we always know that Frazsiers Whip are tough opponents to play at any time.”
Cavalier will be without a few of their key players with the likes of Shanel Spence and Danielle Flake out of contention due to disciplinary suspensions.
Spence particularly will be a big miss for Cavalier as the prolific striker has bagged 16 goals so far this season.
In other action, Arnett Gardens will look to maintain their third-place spot during the season when they host Wifi United.
The Junglists are in red-hot form as they enjoy a run of four straight wins, scoring 29 goals in the process.
HUNTING A WIN
It is another match week for Springers United to try and claim their first win of the season when they travel to take on UWI Mona in their weekend fixture.
Springers, who sit rooted at the foot of the table, have endured a disastrous start to the campaign with six defeats to their name.
They will be hoping they can turn their fortunes around against UWI who sit seventh in the standings and are returning from a 3-0 defeat to Los Perfectos in their last outing.
Both teams will be hoping to walk away with all three points, with UWI entering the fixture as favourites.
