The Jamaican women’s mile relay team eased into the final of the event following a world-leading winning time of 3:22:74 minutes in heat one of the 4x400 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The quartet of Charokee Young, Nikisha Pryce, Shiann Salmon, and Stacey-Ann Williams led all the way to the finish line, finishing ahead of Canada, second in 3:23:29.

The Netherlands took the third automatic qualifying spot after they clocked 3:23:75.

The second heat was won by Great Britain and Northern Ireland, who clocked a winning time of 3:23:33. Belgium were second in 3:23:63, while Italy took the third automatic qualifying spot with a national record, 3:23:86.

The favourites, United States, were disqualified following an illegal baton change.
