Jamaica’s Danniel Thomas-Dodd made a valiant effort in the shot put final, but her best mark of 19.59 was good enough for a fifth-place finish at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, today.

Thomas-Dodd achieved the mark in the third round as the United States of America’s Chase Ealy won with a season’s best effort of 20.43 metres. Canada’s Sarah Mitton took silver with a mark of 20.08, while the bronze medal went to China’s Lijiao Gong with a throw of 19.69.
