State-owned oil refinery Petrojam has announced the appointment of veteran public and private sector executive Danville Walker as its new General Manager, effective July 1.
The company made the announcement in a statement on Monday, describing Walker as a seasoned and highly respected leader with a proven track record of delivering operational excellence, organisational transformation and revenue growth across the energy and public sectors.
According to Petrojam, Walker places strong emphasis on health, safety and environmental (HSE) oversight and views digital transformation as a core component of strategic energy initiatives.
Petrojam said Walker's appointment follows a comprehensive succession-planning process, with the leadership transition expected to be completed during July.
Walker most recently served as Senior Vice President at West Indies Petroleum, a position he held from 2021 until recently.
His career spans several decades in both the public and private sectors.
He began as a senior accountant at Coopers and Lybrand before serving as an associate professor of accounting at the City University of New York.
After returning to Jamaica, Walker established the Electoral Office of Jamaica as a regional benchmark for integrity and transparency during his tenure as Director of Elections.
In 2004, he led the Office of National Reconstruction, coordinating recovery efforts following Hurricane Ivan, before taking the helm of the Jamaica Customs Department, where he spearheaded several operational improvements.
Walker later served as Group Managing Director of the ATL Group of Companies, overseeing its automotive, retail and media operations.
He subsequently returned to public service to head the Housing, Opportunity, Production and Employment (HOPE) Programme, which Petrojam noted has since provided hundreds of housing solutions for Jamaica's most vulnerable populations.
He holds a Master of Business Administration from Florida International University, a Bachelor of Business Administration from the City University of New York, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
