Kingston College’s Julius Itubo broke his own record in the boys Class Three 1500 metres final at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Wednesday, finishing in 4:00.76.

Itubo had set the previous mark of 4:05.15 last year and was the heavy favourite going into the race.

Despite a powerful finish on the homestretch, he narrowly missed becoming the first Class Three athlete to dip under four minutes.

Jamaica College athletes Rickardo Lee and Ajovi Williams claimed second and third, clocking 4:18.42 and 4:25.11, respectively.

The Kenyan-born Itubo dominated the race from start to finish, leaving little doubt about the outcome.
