Policeman among two arrested over seizure of guns and ammunition in Portmore

A policeman was among two men arrested on Monday night along Port Henderson Road in Portmore, St Catherine following the seizure of two guns and 65 rounds of ammunition, including an M16 rifle.

The policeman is attached to a police unit in Trelawny.

Both men are being held on suspicion of illegal possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

Their names have been withheld pending questioning and further investigations.

Charges are expected to be laid.

The police reports indicate that about 11:15 p.m., a police team spotted a grey Toyota Probox with two men aboard overtaking a line of traffic along the roadway and intercepted the vehicle.

The men were questioned and the vehicle was subsequently searched.

According to the police, a Taurus pistol, a magazine, and 65 nine-millimetre rounds of ammunition were found.

The men and the motor car were taken to the Greater Portmore Police Station, where further searches revealed an M16 rifle inside the vehicle.
