Two men, including an 89-year-old licensed firearm holder have been charged after a Taurus .38 revolver was allegedly negligently discharged inside the elderly man's home on January 30.

According to Lucea police, the man left the firearm on a sofa in his house, where it was visible to visitors.

It's reported that a 23-year-old fisherman, from Hopewell in the parish, took the revolver upstairs and discharged three rounds before returning it to the sofa, a police statement said Thursday.

Following a police investigation, the senior citizen was charged with failure to secure firearm.

The fisherman has been charged with larceny of a firearm, unauthorised possession of firearm and ammunition, and discharging a firearm in a public space.
