Two held after US$195,000 in alleged counterfeit notes, firearm seized in Trelawny - police

Two persons were arrested following the alleged seizure of US$195,000 in counterfeit currency, along with a firearm, during a pre-dawn operation in Wait-A-Bit, Trelawny, on Tuesday, the police say.

According to the Falmouth police, the operation was carried out by a team led by Superintendent Velonique Campbell, the commanding officer for the Trelawny Division, acting on warrants under the anti-lottery and firearm acts.

During a search of a premises in the community, police reportedly found a Smith and Wesson Springfield firearm with a magazine affixed containing one 9mm cartridge, along with the counterfeit US currency.

One man and one woman were taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal firearms and related criminal activity within communities.
