GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – A High Court judge in Guyana has set January 6 next year as the date for sentencing Deonarine Dookhoo, who was found guilty of murdering his mother in an incident that occurred four years ago.

Dookhoo, also known as Dinesh, appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon and a 12-member jury at the Berbice High Court, where the prosecution alleged that he killed his mother, Teshwattie Jaglall, between June 30 and July 1, 2021, at her West Coast Berbice home.

At the time of the incident, Dookhoo and his two children were living with Jaglall, and the court heard that Dookhoo, who had a history of alcohol use, would become irritated when his mother confronted him about his drinking.

The court heard that Dookhoo attacked his mother with a cutlass, resulting in her death.
