A 24-year-old man was shot and injured after he allegedly pulled a gun on a police party in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Friday.

Reports are that about 4 p.m., the police went to the French Street area of the town, based on information regarding armed men being observed at that location.

The police reportedly saw the suspect riding a bicycle, dressed in a balaclava with a black bag over his shoulder.

The man reportedly turned around when he saw the police and crashed the bicycle into a vendor's stall.

The police accosted the man who allegedly pulled a handgun from the bag and pointed it at the team. The police reportedly took evasive action and the suspect was shot and injured.

A nine millimetre pistol affixed with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition was allegedly seized from him.

He was taken to hospital, where he was admitted.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the matter.
