A St Catherine man who allegedly pointed a gun at a police party in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Tuesday was shot and killed and the weapon seized.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Steven Campbell, otherwise called 'Bugu', of Bendon district, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 6:30 p.m., police personnel were responding to a fracas at a business establishment along Young Street, when Campbell was allegedly observed with a gun threatening members of the public.

The police reportedly commanded him to drop the weapon, he allegedly disobeyed and instead fled onto Burke Road and was pursued onto Morrison Street.

The man was accosted by another police team and reportedly pointed the gun at the cops.

The police allegedly took evasive action and fired, injuring the man.

The police say they retrieved a .38 revolver with serial numbers erased from Campbell.

He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the matter.
