Chuck remembers parish judge Ruth Lawrence for dedication to justice
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Delroy Chuck has remembered Trelawny Parish Court Judge Ruth Lawrence as a distinguished member of the Bench whose service has left an indelible mark on the justice system.
Chuck, in a statement on Thursday, said Lawrence devoted much of her career to the protection and welfare of children and families.
Lawrence was found unresponsive by her spouse at their Coral Spring home in Trelawny around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
She was rushed to the Falmouth Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her death is being investigated by the police.
In paying tribute, Chuck said Lawrence served with distinction as Chairperson of the Children’s Court in the Northern Circuit and as a key member of the Western Regional Family Court, where her wisdom, fairness, and compassion guided countless matters over the years.
“Her work exemplified her unwavering commitment to justice, particularly for the most vulnerable in society.”
Chuck said Lawrence was widely respected for her diligence, integrity, and her ability to balance firmness with empathy.
“I join with the Judiciary, her colleagues, and all Jamaicans in mourning the loss of this outstanding jurist, while celebrating her sterling contribution to the strengthening of family and children’s justice. We extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues during this time of grief. May her legacy continue to inspire us all.”
