Following the success of the December 15 clean-up of Ocho Rios, the St Ann Chamber of Commerce is reminding its members of the importance of sustained efforts to maintain a clean and welcoming environment.

In a memorandum circulated earlier this week, chamber president Dr Ransford Davidson encouraged business owners to adopt environmentally friendly practices, highlighting several key benefits, including attracting more customers, fostering community engagement, promoting sustainability, and enhancing property values.

The December clean-up initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Destination Assurance Council (DAC), the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) Ocho Rios/Runaway Bay Chapter, the St Ann Municipal Corporation, the St Ann Chamber of Commerce, Jamaica Bauxite Mines, and the office of the Custos of St Ann. The initiative, which coincided with the start of the winter tourist season, received widespread support and was deemed a success.

Dr. Davidson emphasised the need for continuous upkeep, stating, “One significant area of focus is the general clean-up, beautification, and long-term maintenance of spaces near your establishments. By adopting these practices, we can collectively restore the beauty of St Ann and create an environment that both residents and visitors will be proud to experience.”

He further noted, “Clean, well-maintained surroundings play a crucial role in shaping the first impression of the parish. With a few simple efforts, we can enhance this impression and foster a sense of civic pride.”

KEY PRIORITIES FOR 2025

Meanwhile, the chamber has reaffirmed its focus on four key areas to ensure a successful 2025 for St Ann:

• Expanding the Ocho Rios port capacity – Allowing more cruise ships to dock, increasing revenue and opportunities for local businesses.

• Improving the road network – Enhancing traffic flow and reducing congestion.

• Revitalising the Ocho Rios waterfront – Creating a vibrant public space and enhancing the town’s scenic appeal.

• Upgrading the Ocho Rios market – Supporting local businesses and preserving cultural heritage.

With these efforts, the chamber remains committed to fostering sustainable development and ensuring Ocho Rios remains an attractive destination for both visitors and residents.
