Jamaica's Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Kamina Johnson Smith and her Spanish counterparts have started dialogue in the Spanish capital Madrid and will again meet on Friday to wrap up two days of talks.

The discussions are intended to facilitate the strengthening of bilateral, regional and multilateral relations in areas such as trade and investment, tourism, energy, agriculture, logistics and education.

Johnson Smith is also expected to engage her counterparts on matters related to upcoming high-level meetings.

It is also expected that Johnson Smith will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain.

Bilateral cooperation between Jamaica and Spain has strengthened significantly over the past decade.

Spain has increasingly become a leading source of foreign direct investment in Jamaica.

In recent years, Spanish entities have invested US$1.7 billion in 14 hotels and wellness centre construction projects in Jamaica.
