For many, home isn’t just an address, it’s a feeling of comfort and security. It can also reflect a lifestyle that evolves from basic shelter to a place where rest, relaxation, luxury, and entertainment take precedence.

“Home is where you go to relax, unwind and recharge. But it’s also a space where you invite people into. So it’s important that you curate a home that is signature to you and your style,” Janelle Pantry-Coke told Saturday Living.

The founder and creative director of Spaces Jamaica recently welcomed honoured guests through the doors of her humble abode on Ardenne Road to a Sun-kissed Summer Brunch to remember.

“There are three main things to consider when you’re having any event: the decor, food and the guest list, because you want the synergies to be in alignment. You also want to have the banter, the polarised conversations. So we thought, for this summer, let’s do a true event where people get to meet each other. We turned the store into an outdoor oasis with beautiful decor and amazing food,”

As attendees walked the palatial floor and got acquainted with the concepts on show, inspiring interior design summer trends were evident and they became the hot topic eagerly departing from everyone’s lips.

“What we’ve seen trending on the international scene are neutrals. So for this summer collection, we have natural tones and looks. But we presented a fusion of light and airy European-inspired themes, with hints of island flavours in the umbrellas with the fringes, light yellows and blues, fuchsia pink, orange and coral colours. We’re Jamaican; vibrant and colourful people. So we threw in some radiant shades for fun,” she shared.

The aim, Pantry-Coke noted, is to build on neutrals; that way, persons can tailor their space to their climate as well as their taste.

“We need personalisation. We need pops of colour. It’s all about finding what works for you. The response to the new collection has been phenomenal and everybody’s drawn to something different,” she said.

While Spaces Jamaica is known for its signature sofas and sectionals, Pantry-Coke says she took the opportunity to highlight designs from other areas of the house as well, “We wanted to show people that more than just indoor spaces, you can come to us for outdoor as well. We have outdoor dining and outdoor entertainment sets.”

She made special mention of a popular tablescape in the showroom displaying citrus, lemon-inspired colours. This attracted the eyes of many and played into the day’s cafe theme.

“We hope that this summer collection will inspire people to rethink how they see their home spaces. Even if they don’t shop with us, we want to be a place that people can go to for inspiration. We have a showroom, but we also provide design services. So if you’re not the person who is into the do-it-yourself projects, you can always come to us and we will be happy to help you bring your visions to life,” the creative entrepreneur added.
