Former Gleaner parliamentary reporter Harris Dias died at his Paterson, New Jersey, apartment on Monday, November 25. He was 72.

Harris, who started his career at The Gleaner as an office boy in the late 1960s, developed into an outstanding reporter in the 1970s. He was also a founding member of the Union of Journalists and Allied Employees and an officer of the Press Association of Jamaica.

Former head of both organisations, Ben Brodie, remembered Dias as a reporter who was “dedicated not only to the professional development of journalists, but also to the improvement of their welfare”.
