Being a mother brings great joy. And with Mother’s Day being celebrated in the month of May, one woman decided to ditch the usual dinner plans and opt for something much more enchanting for the season. Randy Bowman shared how one idea turned into an exciting brunch adventure to sip and savour.

“I was tired of the same old dinners. And since I now have a production background and what it takes to execute, I called two of my friends from the industry to assist. They hopped on board without hesitation,” she tells Food.

For the Savour and Sip Mother’s Day Soirée, mothers can expect a lavish all-inclusive buffet, elegant signature brunch cocktails, a sip and paint session, live painting, a live performance, as well as a thrilling party filled with unforgettable vibes.

For starters, guests will be treated to Chef Alexander Shaw’s scrumptious callaloo and lobster bisque and mini bammy bites with shrimp ceviche, as well as an exciting salad bar. From there, patrons can expect to engage their taste buds in savoury delights such as the slow-roasted jerk lamb, infused with herbs, garlic and a hint of Scotch bonnet pepper, served with a tamarind glaze.

Seafood lovers can continue their enticing journey with butter-poached lobster tails, served on a bed of creamy coconut rundown mashed potatoes. Then there is the mouth-watering herb-crusted chicken supreme in a sorrel reduction and callaloo stuffing.

All of the main course dishes will be served with festivals, mini Johnny cakes, roasted breadfruits and a sweet plantain medley, as well as pumpkin rice with a toasted coconut and steamed vegetable rundown.

And to sweeten the deal, the owner of Hungry Belly Catering will also be introducing a dessert bar, set to feature mini rum cakes with vanilla bean cream along with sorrel and ginger cheesecake bites.

CURATED DRINK MENU

And on the topic of the brunch cocktails, Dachanel Bryce is one of the two bartenders looking to mix things up with a curated drink menu, just for this ‘mom-umental’ occasion.

Bowman is the co-owner of 876 Sounds, which is known for providing entertainment for special events. If her extensive knowledge and understanding of the industry weren’t incredible enough, she sweetened the deal by partnering with two other mainstays in the field.

“Planning the event so far has been a breeze with the expertise behind the scenes. My team and I have a handle on the production element. Terrensia Vernon of Galeria Events is a certified planner and an expert one, if I might add. While Tafari ‘The Plug’ Forbes can do marketing in his sleep,” she said.

It was important for the entrepreneur to create this event because she believes that mothers deserve to be celebrated in style. As a parent to both a son and daughter, she explained that motherhood is like having two full-time jobs. But it is by far the most rewarding role a woman will ever have in her life.

“When I became a mother for the first time, it was just like they say in the movies: love at first sight. Now that I have not one, but two mini-mes, I don’t even remember life before being a mom,” she shared, adding, “my children are my purpose and reason for pushing; my little motivators. I’m eternally grateful for these blessings, as they inspire me to leave behind a rich legacy.”

Finding a balancing act is no easy feat. So, for Bowman, it all boils down to prioritising what needs her more in that moment. “So some days, work is prioritised because it takes a village to raise children, and I am thankful for my tribe. [On] other days, my children are my top priority. And then there are those days where I take some time for myself and just binge-watch television. I have no real formula; that’s just what has been working for me so far. I’m human, and so when I slack off in an area, I do my best to catch up quickly,” she admitted.

It is for this reason that this mom plans to show attending mothers and other guests nothing but love at the transformed oasis of the Sunken Garden at the Hope Botanical Gardens in St Andrew.
