WISDOM OF THE WEEK

Do you feel ‘emptiness’ in your life?

Published:Sunday | August 24, 2025 | 12:10 AM

Many people wonder why their lives feel unfulfilled, sometimes even after achieving much. The reason is simple: anything done with an unaware self leads to unfulfillment. Life becomes empty not because of lack of achievements, but because we live unconsciously. An unaware mind makes everything empty, while an aware mind creates beauty in even mundane things.

Unawareness is not limited to alcohol or drugs, which numbs for only a few hours. More powerful intoxications in life – like money, power, fame, or position – last for years, sometimes whole life, and keep us distracted from our real self. Even the most beautiful experiences, such as music, art, nature, or creativity, lose their depth when touched with an unaware mind. We skim the surface of life’s ocean, forgetting that its true pearls lie deep within.

ARE YOU ASLEEP?

Most of us are asleep in the dreams of wealth, beauty, recognition, and social status. Just like a night dream feels real until we wake up, the dreams of life feel convincing until time slips away. Unfortunately, many realise the emptiness only towards the end, when hardly anything remains in their hands.

The fear of facing inner emptiness drives us to constant escapes – through entertainment, achievements, or endless desires. Some who sense the emptiness still struggle, unsure of how to fill it. This deep sleep of ignorance has become so common that today’s world feels like a global hospital, where billions are spiritually sick yet protecting their sickness or keep running away from it instead of healing it.

AWAKEN!

The call of life is simple: Awaken! There are only two real ways to break the chain of emptiness. One is through deep self-awareness – cutting away the false foundations of ego, greed, and superficiality. The other is through complete surrender – losing oneself in the love of the Divine. Either know yourself fully, or lose yourself completely in something higher. But doing neither leaves us lost, drifting through life without ever touching its essence.

STOP FOOLING YOURSELF

Every moment is a chance to turn inward. The noise of pomp, attractions, and temporary pleasures cannot hide the truth forever. Desires are endless, like the horizon where the sky meets the sea – appearing close but never reached. If we keep chasing them, we lose the real opportunity of living.

To awaken is to stop fooling ourselves, to stop protecting our weaknesses, but to finally face reality. Success does not lie in collecting wealth or fame, but in discovering the meaning of existence. Awareness is the only medicine, and being present is the only path.

The time is now – awaken to yourself before life passes by unfulfilled.
