JAAA to review reports about junior athlete Jabari Matheson before any decision

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) is taking no immediate action over concerns surrounding junior athlete Jabari Matheson’s workload at the World Athletics U20 Championships, opting instead to review reports from the team’s management before deciding its next move.
Matheson competed in four 400-metre races over two days, a workload that has sparked public debate about athlete welfare.
JAAA President Garth Gayle said the association has not received a formal complaint and will assess the reports from those who travelled with the team before determining whether further action is warranted.
“We are going through step by step to take a careful, analytical look at the thing and act accordingly,” Gayle said.
Gayle also stressed that the JAAA is aware of the public reaction but insists the association must consider the evidence available to it before making any decision.
“We have to be very careful and mindful in how we manage this because it’s important that we take all the necessary things in place and to ensure we make the right decisions.”
