The driver of a Toyota Probox motor car, who reportedly fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run on Sunday in Enfield, St Mary, has surrendered to the police.

The incident occurred about 6:00 a.m. along the Enfield main road, claiming the life of 56-year-old Deveral Kirkland of Enfield.

“Following investigations, the suspect, a 36-year-old taxi driver, arrived at the Annotto Bay Police Station with his attorney, where he was subsequently arrested,” stated Superintendent Anthony Wallace, commanding officer of the St Mary Police Division.

According to a police report, Kirkland was on his routine early-morning jog when he was struck by a motor vehicle.

He was assisted to the Annotto Bay Hospital by police personnel, where he was pronounced dead.

“The silver Toyota Probox motor car allegedly involved in the incident was also seized, and the suspect remains in police custody pending further investigation and charges,” said Wallace.

“The St Mary police remain committed to thorough investigations, so as to deliver justice to the citizens of the parish, and we continue to urge anyone with additional information that may further assist in this probe to come forward,” he added.
