A man accused of stealing $400,000 from a cash pot machine at a business establishment in Spanish Town, St Catherine was on Friday remanded when he appeared before the parish court.

Heron Coleman, a resident of the parish, is charged with shop breaking and larceny.

He appeared before Acting Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle, who ordered him to remain in custody and to return to court on April 14.

According to allegations outlined by the Clerk of Courts, the incident occurred on December 18, 2025.

It is alleged that Coleman entered the business place and removed $400,000 from a box connected to a cash pot machine.

He reportedly escaped the scene in an awaiting motor car.

The court heard that the accused’s alleged actions were captured on CCTV, prompting a report to the police.

An investigation was subsequently launched, leading to his arrest.

He reportedly took the police to recover $70,000 of the stolen loot.

The court heard that he gave a caution statement in which he indicated that he stole the money as his house was destroyed by fire.

He was subsequently arrested and was charged following a question-and-answer session.
