Clarendon was treated to an evening of live music as Appleton Estate Livewire brought dancehall and reggae artistes to The Wharf Estate last Saturday. Headlined by Capleton, the show also featured Deep Jahi and Jamarii, with Jahshii making a surprise appearance during the evening.

Veteran entertainer Capleton commanded the stage with his signature presence and playful interaction. Showing love to the ladies, he treated them to some of his newer releases and spontaneous freestyles, while also revisiting fan favourites such as Jah Jah City and That Day Will Come. Patrons sang along to the familiar lyrics, responding to his performance throughout the set.

Jamarii also received a warm welcome, with patrons singing along to popular singles including Suppose and Mirror Mirror. Some moved closer to the stage as he performed, a show of support that the artiste said made the experience particularly memorable.

“I felt good about my performance. I was actually impressed with myself. It was a great experience, and I’m happy with how I represented myself onstage,” he shared.

Deep Jahi kept the audience moving with performances of Greatness and God A Work. He described the crowd as engaging and receptive, adding that his focus going forward would be on improving his stagecraft and production to create an even better experience for fans.

Jahshii’s surprise appearance during his set provided another moment of excitement. Deep Jahi welcomed the collaboration, describing it as an opportunity to demonstrate unity within the music industry.

“It’s dancehall, so I was glad to show unity. Unity brings the music far and wide,” he said.

Jahshii went on to perform tracks including Cream of the Crop and Pieces, drawing an enthusiastic response from patrons.

The Clarendon staging forms part of a wider series of Appleton Estate Livewire events being held across Jamaica. Promoter Carlton Davy said the decision to feature major headliners at each staging this year was intentional, giving audiences in different communities an opportunity to experience the artistes performing with a live band.

“Having major headliners allows us to offer audiences something special at every stop, with Ruff Kutt providing the live backing. That live music experience is central to Livewire, the musicianship, the connection with the audience and the opportunity to hear favourite songs in a different way,” Davy explained.

He said the series had been well received, with audiences embracing the opportunity to hear their favourite artistes backed by Ruff Kutt.

The next staging will take place at Pier 1 in Montego Bay on November 25. The series will then head to Kingston on January 2, for its second-anniversary event, featuring Valiant performing with a live band.
