Ntukuma, The Storytelling Foundation of Jamaica moves into high gear with its Storytelling Extravaganza for Child Month 2026. Powered by the nomination of its 2025 production for Best Children’s Production, Director EWayne McDonald declares that “the 2026 play Room Full, All Full promises to be an even greater immersive experience for all who attend".
Written and co-directed by educator and master storyteller Amina Blackwood Meeks, Room Full, All Full is a play in which past and present intertwine with vibrant music, colourful attire, and a celebratory blend of cultural traditions in food, dance, and storytelling as a reminder of the role of traditional Jamaican weddings in preserving identity, memory, and community.
“The production is an adventure into interactive storytelling designed for all ages. The second in our Wisdom Calabash series, Room Full, All Full locates ideas about how we wish to raise ourselves as a people within national conversations while supporting the National Standards Curriculum in areas of social studies, history and theatre arts. This makes it the ultimate field trip,” Blackwood Meeks stated.
The cast features the student drumming ensemble known as the Lightning Drummers under the expert guidance of master percussionist, M’Bala.
Sharing his excitement about appearing in his second Child Month production with Ntukuma, young theatre sensation Jomo Tafari Dixon noted that “a play should open a child’s imagination and give them a safe place to grow. In this production, as we did in 2025, we’ve created a joyful, inclusive world where every child, in the company of their teachers, parents and grandparents can see themselves in the story”.
Amina Blackwood Meeks and newcomer to the Jamaican stage, Marcha Tracey, round out the cast as storytellers.
Room Full, All Full plays at the Little Little Theatre May 14-31 at 11:00 a.m. during the week for students and on Sundays at 4 p.m. for a general audience.
