SDC expands girls’ hygiene programme to second school
Four months after launching ‘It’s a Girl’s Thing’, a programme focused on adolescent hygiene and personal care, the St Thomas office of the Social Development Commission (SDC) has expanded the initiative to a second school in the parish. The initiative was first introduced at Paul Bogle High School in May.
Premier says economy strong as he exits
HAMILTON (CMC): Premier David Burt, who is preparing to step down as head of Bermuda’s government later this month, says he is leaving office with the British Overseas Territory’s economy on a strong footing. “So, now, as I prepare to step down, this is the progress that I leave to the next minister of finance. Not record deficits, not an economy in decline, but an economy that is growing, stronger public finances, increased investment in Bermuda and greater capacity to meet the needs of our people while reducing the burden of debt,” Burt said.
Changing Champs
At least one coach is raising concerns that changes being considered by the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) to make the Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships more efficient could ultimately hinder athlete development. According to The Gleaner sources, major adjustments are being considered for next year’s GraceKennedy-sponsored Champs. From shifting events to days that could boost spectator attendance to reducing the number of entries per event, ISSA is weighing a series of changes aimed at benefiting stakeholders ahead of next year’s staging.
