Venezuela and Argentina have signed new co-operation agreements to further boost their fast-growing economic ties.

The accords were signed in Caracas after talks between President Hugo Chavez and the visiting Argentine president, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

The agreements include training programmes for thousands of Venezuelans and the transfer of Argentine agricultural technology.

President Fernandez said the agreements are aimed at helping Venezuela to become more self-sufficient in respect of food production.
