Government workers in the United States Virgin Islands have been given next Tuesday off to observe the inauguration of US president-elect Barack Obama.
Workers on the 8am to 5pm shift will be allowed to celebrate with Obama as he is sworn in as the first African-American president in the White House.
The day off does not apply to essential employees, workers on a regular or rotating shift, and those on annual or sick leave.
