Cuba\'s Foreign Minister, Felipe Perez Roque, is defending the human rights record of the communist island.

Mr Perez Roque said no Cuban family has ever suffered the loss of a relative through government-endorsed disappearances.

He also said families were guaranteed that there children would receive an education.

However, a leading protester, Oswaldo Paya, is calling for the United Nations to pressure Cuba to move towards fully implementing, two key human rights provisions it signed earlier this year.

According to Mr. Paya, many people are jailed in Havana, for simply expressing their ideas.
