Thailand\'s Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, has fired the chief of the national police force.

The news comes amid mounting tensions over the ongoing protests that have paralysed Bangkok\'s two airports.

Police have now ordered protesters to leave the smaller Don Mueang airport, while riot police are in place at the international airport.

However, the anti-government protesters say they will not leave until Mr. Somchai resigns.

The Prime Minister has reportedly refused to step down.

Meanwhile, the police have not yet moved to break up the protests but say they are prepared to take other steps if negotiations fail.
