Businessman Paul Campbell is the new president of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) after defeating West Indies legend Courtney Walsh in a close presidential race at the voting congress last night.

The voting took place at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.

Campbell, who served as first vice-president for the past five years, got 50 votes to Walsh’s 47.

Campbell replaces the highly respected Jackie Hendriks, a West Indies wicketkeeper of the 1960s who did not seek re-election after serving for over 10 years.

The new president, who will serve for at least two years, said his vision is to see cricket re-establish itself as the number one sport and recreational activity in the country.

He has been credited for leading the way in the implementation of the Jamaican Semi-Professional League.
