Zimbabwe talks stalled

Efforts to resolve Zimbabwe’s political crisis remained stalled yesterday after the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) failed to turn up for talks in Swaziland.

The MDC says its leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, did not attend the meeting because his travel documents has been delayed for too long.

The talks are expected to resume in Harane within one week to try to break stalemate between Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party and the MDC.

However, yesterday, the MDC alleged that Tsvangirai who had been without a passport for several months received his emergency travel documents too late Sunday to secure a travel visa.

Last week South Africa President Thabo Mbeki failed to break the impasse between the two parties over who would control key government ministeries.
