US President George W Bush is seeking to assure Americans that the government is doing all it can in an effort to stabilise the country’s economy.
He’s also defending the recent $700 billion rescue plan for the financial sector.
Mr. Bush is adamant that although the bailout package might take some time to take effect, it will work.
The US is working closely with other countries to steady panicking markets, he added.
His statement comes as finance ministers from the Group of Seven most industrialised nations - the US, Japan, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Canada are now meeting in Washington.
Talks will also be held at the International Monetary Fund in the US capital.
