Police in north-east England said they have made a big dent in gang activities in that section of the country following the arrest of a Jamaican drug dealing gang.

They said the leader of the gang, Albert ‘Papa’ Thomas, 32, was sentenced yesterday to 10 years in prison after admitting conspiracy to supply controlled drugs.

The police said the eight gang members were taken into custody after the police found the name Donna in a number of addicts\' mobile phones.

They later found that Donna was another name used by 38 year old Claudine Neil, another Jamaican gang member.

She was reportedly given a reduced sentence of just two years, after she agreed to give evidence against the gang.

Three others were also jailed for terms ranging from four to seven years and three more given community sentences.
