Communist chief sentenced

The former Communist Party chief in Shanghai, China, has been sentenced to 18 years in jail.



According to the Xinhua news agency, a court in the northern city of Tianjin, found the 61 year old Chen Liangyu guilty of taking bribes and abusing his position.



He was reportedly ousted from office two years ago, after being accused of misusing a multi-million dollar pension fund.



He is the most senior Chinese official to be convicted of corruption in more than a decade.
