Taiwan finance minister resigns

Taiwan\'s finance minister has resigned following a brawl between rival MPs, nine days before the island\'s hotly disputed presidential election.

Ho Chih-chin had reportedly accompanied members of the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) party to the campaign headquarters of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to investigate corruption claims.

The KMT alleged that the DPP paid no rent on the Taipei building. However the allegation was denied.

The BBC reports that a fight broke out between the rival groups as they tried to leave, and MPs from both sides were arrested.

The DPP is trailing behind the KMT in the opinion polls ahead of the March 22 elections.
