Jamaica doing well at CAC Champs

Allison Randall and Monique Johnson turned in good performances on their way to gold medals for Jamaica on day two of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Senior Track and Field Championships in Morelia, Mexico, yesterday.

Jamaica won three gold and four silver medals on day two of the meet to take their overall tally to six gold, five silver and one bronze.

Randall threw 55.26m to win the women's discus event easily ahead of Mexicans Paulina Flores (50.16m) and Irais Estrada (49.84m). Johnson won Jamaica's second gold medal of the day, when she crossed the line first in the women's 100m hurdles in 13.25 seconds.

disappointing fifth

Kierre Beckles of Barbados bagged silver in 13.37 ahead of Dominican Republic's Lavone Idlete, 13.41. Indira Spence finished a disappointing fifth in 13.49.

Jamaica's quartet of Elaine Thompson, Nadine Palmer, Aleen Bailey, and Sheri-Ann Brooks won the country's third gold of the day when they captured the women's 4x100m in 43.58. Trinidad and Tobago were second in 43.67 ahead of The Bahamas, 44.08.

Eric Keddo pocketed silver for Jamaica in the men's 110m hurdles in 13.92. Jeffrey Julmis of Haiti won gold in 13.83 while Hector Cotto of Puerto Rico got bronze in 14.25.

Holmwood Technical schoolgirl Chris Ann Gordon won a silver in the women's 400m in the 52.52 seconds. Guyana's Kadecia Baird was first in 51.32. Kineke Alexander of St Vincent and the Grenadines ran 52.81 for third. Jamaica's Bobby-Gaye Wilkins was fifth in 53.01.

Omar Johnson also won a silver for Jamaica in the men's 400m in 45.67 behind the winner, Jarrin Solomon of Trinidad and Tobago, 45.54.

The men's sprint relay team of Oshane Bailey, Andrew Fisher, Jermaine Brown, and Jason Livermore had to settle for silver in 38.86. The event was won by The Bahamas in 38.77. Trinidad and Tobago were third in 39.29.
